Alley Cat Allies is on the ground in Maui right now to protect cats
Alley Cat Allies is on the ground in Maui right now to save cats impacted by the devastating wildfires, and we’re coordinating efforts to bring vital supplies, especially food and veterinary care, to cats and kittens. Community cats in particular need support so as not to slip through the cracks of disaster relief.
A major disaster is unfolding on the island, especially in Lahaina and Kula, and there are still so many unknowns. One thing we do know is cats and kittens need us now and will continue to need us for many months to come.
You can be a kitten advocate
Neonatal kittens, aged newborn to 4 weeks old, need round-the-clock care to survive and thrive. Alley Cat Allies provides compassionate people the knowledge they need to protect even the youngest and most fragile kittens in their communities.
Become a kitten advocate with our resources.
5 ways to help mother cats with kittens
1. Always keep kittens with mom. She is their best caretaker!
2. Provide essentials to mother cats outdoors, like high-quality kitten food, water, and a cozy outdoor shelter
3. Create the perfect space for indoor mother cats with a nesting box in a quiet, temperature-controlled area
4. Track the progress of the kittens. Weigh them daily if mom is comfortable with you doing so
5. Spay and neuter the kittens once they are 2 months old and at least 2 pounds. Spay mom too!
P.S. The cat pictured is Nora, who just had three healthy babies!
Kitten care tip!
As long as kittens are eating formula, you have to burp them. Put them on your shoulder or on their stomachs and pat them gently until you feel them burp. And since kitten formula is sticky, clean kittens’ faces after each feeding with a warm, damp cloth and dry them as needed. We have to keep them looking and feeling lovely!
