Atlantic County community cat Quinn eager to dig in to our new cat food bank!

Alley Cat Allies is thrilled to announce that we are further expanding our work to provide critical spay and neuter, Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR), access to care, and wellness services to cats throughout Atlantic County, New Jersey! To bring the most comprehensive, holistic, and lifesaving cat resources to the area, we’re teaming up with the Humane Society of Atlantic County (HSAC) on a new cat food bank.

No one level of support for cats can cover all the needs of a community, especially when many residents are putting forth so much effort—even through their own financial limitations—to care for their cats. The new food bank is targeted mainly to community cat caregivers in the area, acknowledging that the costs of feeding community cats every day is a constant and ever-present concern. It will also be available to residents who need help affording food for their indoor cats.

Alley Cat Allies has been providing grants for spay and neuter and TNR in the area with HSAC for a number of years (and our newest goal is to reach at least 1,000 cats by the end of summer!) but effective resources don’t just stop with a surgery or vaccine.

We know Atlantic County residents care for their cats, and we want to give them all the tools they need to keep their families together and continue providing a compassionate, necessary service in the form of community cat care. This new food resource will help to make that impact, and we have our generous supporters and donors to thank for making it all possible!

“Spay and neuter, medical care, proper shelter, food, and water are all essential parts of a managed colony,” said Steve Dash, executive director of HSAC. “This is a perfect example of how animal welfare groups, large and small, work together so the best interests of all animals are best served.”

Community and pet cats across Atlantic County can benefit from the food bank.

Food will be distributed by HSAC to its partner TNR organizations, who will then ensure caregivers receive it. Through these on-the-ground advocates, we’re identifying where the need is greatest and providing support right away. Community cats like Quinn, who is a spry 14-years-old, are already digging in!

Alley Cat Allies has long supported no-cost, no strings attached cat food banks across the country. During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, our Keeping Families Together® program donated thousands of pounds of cat and dog food and cat litter to communities across the United States. Many of these supplies were distributed to those in need through local food banks and pantries.
