GEORGE runs, plays, jumps, leaps and bounds. He loves the high vantage point of his new home’s windowsill and chasing wand toys. When you see how he moves and his zest for life, it’s hard to believe he lost a back leg due to a heinous act of senseless cruelty.

In April of 2024, George, a ~3-year-old community cat, walked up to his caregiver in Henrietta Township, Ohio, on the morning of April 13 with his rear left leg dangling behind him. A veterinary exam revealed buckshot in the shattered limb; George had been maimed by a shotgun. The damage was so severe that his leg couldn’t be saved, and had to be surgically amputated.

Alley Cat Allies covered the costs of George’s surgery and care, and we’ve visited him several times in his new adoptive home. Though he’s doing well, we won’t stop until justice is served. We’ve offered a $10,000 reward to anyone with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for George’s shooting.

Unfortunately, George’s case is not unique. In fact, he is lucky to be alive.

Seeking Serial Cat Killer in Florida

Alley Cat Allies is also offering a $15,000 reward for information that leads to the conviction of a suspected serial killer of several cats in Palm Beach County, Florida. Cats like Captain Gray, Lilly, Gizmo, and Midge, who were beloved members of their families, are all suspected to be victims.

The disappearances and killings have terrorized the town of Lake Clarke Shores and shattered the sense of peace and safety in the community. Whoever is responsible must be apprehended.

Until the perpetrators of George’s maiming and the killing of Lake Clarke Shores cats are caught, more cats—and the communities involved—are at risk. The Link between acts of violence toward cats and those toward people is well-researched and established.

Taking a Stand Against All Cruelty

Alley Cat Allies will continue to seek justice and advocate for the strongest penalties under the law for acts of cruelty. Arresting, convicting, and sentencing perpetrators to years of jail time, and other measures that limit their access to animals, sets a critical precedent for the entire country and a deterrent against future cruelty.

Together with our supporters like you, we tell courts and authorities: To underestimate the depravity of animal cruelty and the harm it causes is to fail to recognize cats as sentient beings with inherent value who suffer and feel pain, and deserve neither. It is also a grave failure to grasp the role of cruelty to cats in the greater landscape of violence in our society.

Thank you for standing with us, for George and for all cats and kittens impacted by cruelty.
