HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY, MIKEY!

If you’ve been following Alley Cat Allies, or are one of the many people who frequent the Atlantic City Boardwalk in New Jersey and have met Mikey, you know how beloved this community cat really is.

Mikey is a perfect ambassador for his fellow community cats, showing the world that cats live full, happy lives in their outdoor homes. Each day is a new adventure for this curious and carefree guy, and he loves spending quality time with his feline family (especially his buddy Star, who can often be found exploring the beach and the hidden spaces beneath the boardwalk right alongside him).

We’re so proud to have protected Mikey for all these years–and all the community cats living along the boardwalk for many more through our Boardwalk Cats Project®. Please join us in wishing Mikey the best during this amazing milestone!

Living each day outdoors among the surf and sand of the world-famous Atlantic City Boardwalk, Mikey and his fellow community cats—known as the Boardwalk Cats—are as much a fixture of the famous tourist spot as the casinos and resorts. Those attractions are atop the wooden walkways, but the Boardwalk Cats make their home in the secret spaces beneath.

Since 2000, Alley Cat Allies has cared for these community cats living along the boardwalk through our Boardwalk Cats Project. The project is a city-endorsed Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) program that brings together community leaders, advocates, and the public to protect and improve the lives of their community’s cats.

Locals and visitors of the boardwalk alike absolutely adore Mikey and all of the Boardwalk Cats. They truly consider them friends and neighbors and would do anything to protect them. Mikey and his feline family embody the global truth that Cats Are Community–and what it means for a community to protect and value cats like community members!
