Alley Cat Allies continues to rush critical veterinary care to cats and kittens impacted and displaced by the Los Angeles area fires in California. The devastation is beyond words and has left so many people and animals displaced.
Candy and Gizmo, a community cat and an indoor cat, were found hiding together under the remains of a Palisades home this week. It had been burned to the ground by the fast-moving flames.
Thankfully, and incredibly, both cats were unharmed—a testament to cats’ keen survival instinct. We know from decades of disaster response experience that more cats will emerge in the coming days and weeks, once they feel safe to do so.
The Alley Cat Allies Rapid Response Team helped transport Candy and Gizmo to veterinary care—as we did for many cats throughout the weekend and early this week—and covered the costs of their exam and treatment. They are safe and together in a foster home right now.
We were also proud to provide veterinary care to Mum and her dog brother, Bill, whose family had to quickly evacuate from the fires. Unfortunately, their home was also lost.
Both cat and dog were thoroughly examined and treated—all covered by Alley Cat Allies—and are recovering in a safe, comfortable foster home.
Even Toulouse, who we helped rescue from a Palisades fire evacuation zone this weekend, found a way to make herself at home in her new situation. And with all she has been through between her quick evacuation and a pre-fire, significant medical condition, that is no small feat.
Alley Cat Allies has been covering the costs of Toulouse’s treatment and pain management, too, and this video from her foster caregiver is beyond heartwarming to see:
We’ve scanned every cat we’ve helped for a microchip, and their families know they are receiving care. Many people are not in a position to keep their animals with them, and we’re providing at least some relief in ensuring those animals’ health and wellbeing.
